Mrs. Karen Lee

Welcome to Skaggs Elementary School!  My name is Karen Lee, and I am truly honored and humbled to be the principal at this amazing school.

Skaggs has always been a home to my educational career.  I started as a fourth grade teacher here in 2002.  A few of the highlights in the following years consisted of fifth grade teaching, Math Rocks, Teacher of the Year, and district curriculum writing.  After leaving for a couple of years to serve as an assistant principal, I was extremely happy to return as the principal of this special school.

As an educator, the most gratifying experience is to witness the students working hard to reach their potential and continuing to grow as citizens to serve more than just themselves.  As the principal, I strive to serve as a leader to provide an excellent education for all of our Stars.

I want you to know that I am always available for you.  Whether it be for improvements or kudos for a job well done, I want to hear them.  I take criticism as opportunity for growth and absorb compliments as energy to keep going.  At Skaggs, we will work to create a positive attitude, respect for people, and a drive for student success every day.  Rigorous learning will happen, but every child and teacher’s social and emotional well-being will be the underlying foundation.

Our family moved into the neighborhood to send our children to this very school.  My husband and I raised our two daughters in Plano through Skaggs, Wyatt, Rice, Jasper, and Plano West Senior High School.

I am proud to be a Skaggs Star, and I ask for your continuous trust and support for our school.

With Warm Regards,

Karen Lee

Hello.  I am Fannysteen Mays and I am honored to be apart of the Skaggs Family as your Assistant Principal. This is my third year at Skaggs.  I was born in Charleston, South Carolina and moved to Texas in high school.  I am a proud HBCU graduate of Grambling State University (Louisiana) and the University of North Texas, where I received a Master’s degree in education.

My educational career started in 2001 with Plano ISD.  I taught at Thomas Elementary for 13 years and then began my administrative journey at Dooley, Memorial, and Rasor Elementaries and now Skaggs!

I am married to my college sweetheart and we are blessed with two energetic, outgoing, and talented sons who have a love for the arts. Our oldest son, is a junior at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. And our youngest son is a senior in high school. In my spare time, you will find me spending time with my loved ones or binge watching something on a streaming platform. Singing, traveling and eating out at restaurants are also things that bring me joy.

I always enjoy connecting with staff, students, families and the Skaggs community.
